ChamplainStrings

A community string orchestra bringing the beauty of classical music to the Champlain Valley region.

A Tradition of Musical Excellence

Champlain Strings is a community string orchestra based in Plattsburgh, New York, founded by violinists Marilyn Reynolds and Anastasia Pratt. When SUNY Plattsburgh made the decision to no longer maintain its string orchestra, the two founders refused to let that artistic tradition disappear from the region.

Starting small, they recruited dedicated string players from across the Canadian-American border — from Saranac Lake to Elizabethtown to Montreal — united by a shared love of music and community.

The orchestra has grown into a beloved regional ensemble, performing masterworks ranging from Bach and Vivaldi to Holst and Albéniz. Everyone is welcome — whether you are a lifelong classical music enthusiast or attending your very first orchestral concert.
